Please consider posting your location

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
It's nice to know where people are when you're chatting with them about something. It's also easy to ask someone if they want personal help if you see that they aren't too far from you.

I'm not telling anyone that they have to do this, just saying it's a nice detail to consider adding. It doesn't have to be too specific, you can simply put UK or Latvia, or whatever but please don't put actual addresses!!! That would be too much info!! :)

The site has the ability to list your location under your username in the left column of your posts. To add location info, click on the word settings in the top right corner and then click on "Edit Profile" in the left column. If you scroll down to almost the bottom you'll see a line where you can type in whatever location info you'd like to add.

TO the guy that just ran his F450 into a tree, I'd help you if you're not too far away but I don't know where you are! Your crash though gave me the idea for this thread so something good has come of it.

Thanks,
Bart

Bart, I've been meaning to mention this for ages! Too many times you have to ask "where are you"!!

Thanks.

if someone can forward me a link to a map feature at another site or at a vbulletin developer site I can then forward it to my web guy and have him give it a look. we actually have two maps here, the globe graphic on the Active Threads page and this one that can be accessed via a tab just below the site header on the home page

How about just making location mandatory for registration. Okay people can always lie and might be right now :) Or at least give them the option and tell them why the forum would want to log the information. Take the information from the form write it into a xml and have google maps app read it out. Or write it directly into a DB what ever the forum is based on and the google maps app can read out.

Eventually the data is there it should be simple also to use it in different ways european states etc, groups. Announcement want to be made to a certain area, get the info mails for out etc.

Or am i missing the point ?

I think it is in every members interest to do this.. I have made some great mates and fellow fliers by knowing where they were..

The crashed 450 is the perfect example.. Well suggested Bart :)

I'm not going to make it mandatory and then have people decide not to register because they're not comfortable with the request for info. people could lie anyway so what's the point? on the other hand, for those that do list truthful location info there's the chance that they might gain more benefit from their participation here....who knows!?!

BMW motorcycle riders in the US have had their "Anonymous List" for a long time where people that get stuck on the road can refer to their directory of other BMW riders that are in that area and might be able to help. Seems reasonable to find some local connection to others and make things here a little more personal.

sorry i meant it more as a joke stating that people would lie anyways etc. But showing a address fields City/country " not a required " in the form at registration could feed more info into the database. A couple months in I noticed the option to enter my location data. I probably would have done it before hand.

I don't get the usermaps it shows online users registered or guest based on IPs or ?
