Alternative ESC's and Motors

I have used both Plettenberg motors and Schulze ESC's in other applications. Does anyone have experience using these for a Cinestar 8/6 or other HL multirotor? Your comments are most appreciated.

Thanks,

Kim.

Sorry Kim seems like you are a lone tester with your set up.. what FC are you using?

There are a number of folks that are using the Plettenberg motors, those shouldn't be a problem. The speed controllers are another matter, it would depend on the flight controller in use, but for the most part any controller optimized for use on RC helis, cars, or other applications that require a slow ramp on throttle generally aren't well suited to multirotors. The majority of PWM ESCs in use are cheap Chinese units with Atmel processors, these seem to work the best and there is third party firmware available to reflash them to be more suitable for multirotor use.

On my Cinestar6 I'm using AXI 2814-22 motors with cheap reflashed 30 amp ESCs and DJI Wookong-m controller. I've tried a few different variations of ESCs and this setup works the best so far. Expensive controllers may not be the best solution for a a multi and in some instances may not work at all, Castle ESCs are famous for not being multirotor compatible among others.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply.

I have a hex with DJI and may run the same if it turns out the Schulze ESC's are fast enough. If I run the Plettenbergs only I will run MK. I have flown the Plettenbergs for six years at various national and W/C's (aerobatics) and there simply is not a better more reliable motor to be had.
