external power for gimbal servos

I am currently flying a AQ50D board in a Y6 copter with 2 axis camera gimbal. Board is power by external bec feeding voltage to spare RX channel. Gimabl servos are currently getting voltage from FC board, but i have read this is not really good because in case of servo short it will kill power supply to board. So as i have another bec laying around , i was thinking of using it, maybe at 6v to give the servos a bit more grunt.
But how do i manage wire connections? Signal to servos of course come from FC , +V to servos will come from new BEC , and what about GND ? in theory it should be the same if i get it from FC or new BEC , am i correct ?
thanks.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
an independent battery is a nice feature. the red power wire is common between the servo and the battery. the white signal wire is common between the FC and the servo. THe black ground wire is common between the FC, servo, and battery. If you buy an 18 or 24" Y-harness you can just cut the wires you don't need (red from the FC to the Y, signal from the battery to the Y) and change the battery connector if you need to.
i've got a switch also on my camera mount so i can just flip it off in between flights while i swap out flight packs.
good luck,
bart
