Hey all,

Long time lurker... first time poster here!

I have recently upgraded from a 330XS to a Gaui 500X, carrying a Sony Nex 5n camera. So far I have had troubles getting it to fly as nice as my old 330XS (with only carried a go pro). Wondering if anyone has some recommendations on gain settings (using futaba Faast) to use with this? My all up weight is about 1700 grams with battery/camera/FPV gear. I have tried mounting the battery underneath, and on top but nothing seems to be as smooth as my old 330..

Im also considering upgrading to a DJI Naza to help fix things - has anyone else done this with a Gaui 500X successfully? Eventually I want to get a light weight 2 axis camera mount so the stabilization feature looks awesome.

Cheers

I have a Gaui 330X in my fleet. If you moved all the Gaui bits over to the 500X frame I think part of the problem is the Gaui electronics aren't strong enough to carry a 5N. I tried flying my 5N under my MK Hexa V1 with the hisight mount and the results were poor, it's more weight than the equipment was intended to fly with. Works really nice under the CineStar6 which is much bigger and has a lot more lifting capacity. While a Naza controller will help, I think you need to either use a lighter camera or upgrade the motors and ESCs along with the flight controller.

Hey Jamie. I just got a 500x for Christmas as my first quad. My idea is to use it as a learning platform for AP (mainly stills) before moving up to a larger more powerful rig (like a cinestar). I fitted my Gaui with a Spektrum DX8 and the DJI WKM. Build and setup went smooth (couple user errors here and there) and I've now already put in about 3 hours of flight time and I am in love. My bird flies beautiful and I'm getting about 8 min flights on a single 2S 2200 pack (no additional payload).

I've read great things about the Naza and if you really don't care about GPS, I'd say do it!

My next task to get a camera mount and Go Pro 2.

I spent a bit of time over the last few days and seem to have got it at least equal to the 330XS in terms of stability. I changed the set up a fair bit and mounted the battery (3S 4000 MAH) on top of the quad rather than below, and this seems to balance out the camera a fair bit. This, and unplugging the green gain wire has made it really nice to fly. Only problem is that I don't have a gain control now but it seems to be OK.

Took a video and sticked some shots together (standard Gaui 500X with the Gaui 1 axis mount and a sony NEX 5n). The mount is hard mounted to the quad, so there is some vibrations in the footage that I will try and get rid of. Hopefully when I can get an AV130 I will be able to get some smoother footage, but for now I am happy with progress: http://vimeo.com/34500885

I tried to reply before but for some reason it didn't post... Hmm?

Anyway, I have made some progress with the 500X, and after changing the battery location to on top of the quad (to balance out the camera) it seems the GU 44 is having an easier time keeping control. I put my FPV gear and the Sony Nex 5N onto it yesterday and shot some video. Not 100% there yet (still some vibrations and a bit of unwanted movement), but not bad for a hard mounted camera with no vibration isolators. http://vimeo.com/34500885

Definitely making progress!

Hey guys I recently purchased a Gaui 500x and it arrived today and I have it all set up! I am waiting on the receiver and transmitter to arrive. I still have not purchased a battery since I am not sure what I am looking for. Would this battery http://www.ebay.com/itm/17075134147...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1285wt_1355 work? I would like a battery that has around 15-20 minutes of flight time if possible.

I also will need some assistance with programing my Spektrum DX8 and AR8000. If you guys could give me some programming info that would be great!

Look forward to hearing back from you guys!

Just received my batteries and have everything all hooked up on my new 500X. I have all of the settings in my DX8 and just got the transmitter and receiver bound together but am not having any luck getting the quad going. Something either must not be programmed right or I don't have something hooked up right. Someone that can help me please email me at travisdwaibel@me.com

THANK YOU!

Jamie --

Following a hard cartwheel landing of my DJI F450 Flame frame quad yesterday I found that the frame IS NOT indestructible. I managed to break and arm. I decided last night to move the Naza controller over to my Gaui 500X that I was just completing repairs on (starting to get a sense of my flight skills to date?). I completed the computer set-up of the Gaui last night and thankfully the rotor all turned the right direction since accessing the ESCs is a PITA.

I'm hoping to get out to fly it later today if the wind dies down. I hope to have some results to post this evening.

Cheers,

Tom
