Gimbal output test...

I'm still trying to get my problem sorted, with the gimbal outputs drifting/hunting/twitching around the neutral point. This only happens once the system finds at least five sats, so that it is flashing the red LED twice, once, or not flashing. Sidney thinks it might be a problem with just my unit, because I always get two quick flashes of the white LED from the first time power is applied, in either ATTI or GPS modes. This doesn't seem to affect flight performance, however, but it might be the cause of the gimbal problems.

I am still not sure that these might still be two completely unrelated issues, though, but without a second WK-M system to check, I have no way to determine this, one way or another. Can someone please try a simple test for me? Just plug in a servo (any servo will do...) to one of the gimbal outputs, set the gain to at least 20, and then power up the whole system. Once the red LED starts flashing twice, or less, just watch the servo. If the problem is there, you will see the servo move 2-3 times, in one direction, and then 2-3 times back.

Thanks -- Gary

I did another test, which is to unplug the GPS module. This actually "fixes" the problem, because the system never finds enough sats to get out of the mode where it is flashing red three times. So, this is at least a workaround that lets me fly without the twitches in ATTI mode.

Also, I was mistaken. I'm not having the white flashing LED problem. What I was seeing was the yellow LED blink twice, very fast, and then repeat. It does the same thing in the GPS mode, with the red/blue LEDs blinking fast twice. As I understand it, this is normal. :)

Anyway, I'm convinced, more than ever, that this gimbal issue is definitely a software bug, but I need verification from at least one more person that they can duplicate my test results, so com'on guys, a little help? :tennis:

I will do it in the next couple days since i have the same issue like you. I will not let my bird fly though without the GPS model i just don't like the randomness of this Canbus and don't wanna find out what could happen. But what i will do is get the bird flying and restart it when he already has the SATs and find them after each restart in a couple seconds and leave the bird on the ground were this problem already happens. And than do the same without the GPS module.

I finished setting up/calibrating my new WK-M - XA FC/AHRS setup, where I'm using the XA bits to only control the gimbal. I switched to a regular (i.e. -- non-S.Bus...) 14-channel receiver, so I could assign two sliders to the tilt and roll adjustment functions, and so that I can use both X2 and X3 for gain adjustments. I have X2 set to the basic gains, and X3 set for use with the attitude gains.

Anyway, this works quite well. The XA works perfect as a gimbal IMU, and I get nice smooth movements. This is my workaround for the issue I have with the WK-M's gimbal outputs wandering about, once the system sees enough sats to make the LED flash twice, or less. Now I can get full GPS lock, and the gimbal servos stay put. :)

Tomorrow I will do a test flight.
