WKM quad first outing in the big field

Yesterday morning turned out to be a perfect for flying, I headed over to the RC heli field early to get some air time before any wind started up. Took WKM #2 along to give it its first flight time someplace other than my front or backyard, this one is a lot of fun to fly in any amount of space as I found out. Did 3 or 4 flights with the quad and didn't want to stop but unfortunately time was limitied with several other multis in the car that's all I had time for on this trip, also had the big hex along as well and did a couple flights with it too. The video is mostly GPS position hold climbing straight up and then some general flying around in ATTI mode before a RTH and autoland seen from the onboard GoPro point of view. For the RTH I flew it most of the way down the field, turned on GPS position hold, then flipped the switch to trigger failsafe and then let the TX hang on the nech strap while I stood and watched. I have to say I was a little bit nervous since I had not yet tried RTH on either of my WKM and wasn't quite sure what was going to happen, felt sort of like the first time I used waypoint flight and come home on the MK Hexa. The amazing thing was by the time I did the RTH the wind had come up a bit but even so the quad autolanded within a meter of where it took off. The painted circle you see on the grass as its landing is where I had put it down for take off and ultimately it wound up just a small distance behind the circle, I doubt that either of my MK GPS would be that accurate!

The keep impressing me more and more...

I need to set up the rth switch.. have you got the new firmware on with motor start and shutdown?

Outstanding RTRyder...^.^ Stable and beautiful flight, RTH & auto landing more impressive.
I set up the Droidworx quad built in Wookong, basic setting is ok...Short test flight is not bad.
But I couldn't find to assign the switch to RHT & auto land in manual, which means fail-safe.
Could you explain the way to set up RTH & auto landing?

Also are you using av130 with gopro?
My av130 arrived here last week.^.^

Thanks

I have the new firmware loaded on both the hex and quad, on the hex I have motor arming enabled, and on the quad I have power monitoring enabled. One of these days I'll get both of them setup the same, have to do some wiring harness mods on the hex to install the power module and I might convert it back to a Y6 when I do that.

To setup a switch for RTH you need to create a mix on the TX that will make the controller go into failsafe mode when it is turned on, exactly how to do it depends on what TX you are using. The basic idea is to mix an unused switch with the one that you use for manual/ATTI/GPS mode so when the switch is turned on the controller will see it as failsafe. You can monitor it in the Assistant software in the TX Calibration screen. When the designated RTH switch is turned on with the flight mode switch set to either ATTI or GPS you should see 'U' channel move to failsafe at the bottom of the screen. Once that is done make sure you have 'Go home and landing' set in the Autopilot screen and make sure that you have bound your TX with the throttle set to 50% for failsafe mode.

I have an AV130 on my WKM hex, the video I posted was done with my WKM quad that has small GoPro only gimbal on it. I have used the AV130 with a GoPro, it works well but overall it works better with a heavier camera on it.

Yes it was! I had wanted to get out and video the foliage plus get some still shots, unfortunately by the time the weather cooperated enough to do that most of the color has come and gone. Still it was about as good a day as you could ask for to fly, the wind didn't start to blow until I was packing up to come home and the light was perfect even for the GoPro.

Ken, what radio/reciever are you using ... the vids and control look great...

The TX is a JR 11X, the RX on the quad is a Spektrum AR7000. This is the quad itself, built mainly from bits and pieces I had hanging around plus a new Wookong-M controller, turned out pretty good for a bunch of parts that I didn't intend to ever assemble into the same package! Frame is MK built from leftover parts when I upgraded my original Hexa to a Droidworx frame plus a few bits from a short lived X8 I built earlier this year. The landing gear and camera mount are RC Carbon that I had purchased for use on that same Hoverfly Pro X8 based multi that was a dismal failure all around so the L/G and mount got removed and put on the shelf and the frame broken down for spares. As it turns out the mount needed major re-engineering before it worked right but once fixed performs quite well as seen in the video...
