F550 Crash - Will it still fly?? Questions

As I crack open a cold one..I sit looking at my F550 and propellers scattered everywhere. Props Broke, GPS mount broke, frame cracked

In short, I was flying around 45ft and my FrSky Taranis controller starts saying "low battery" on the controller, less than 10seconds later I'm bringing my rig down to land and all of a sudden I lose complete control, and it was over. Crashed straight into a brick wall. Painful but I guess it was bound to happen someday?

I have two questions:
1.) Should my rig have entered failsafe on low battery with my tx? Or did I lose control only due to low battery. I know it was my fault not to check on this before flying. Although it was NOT on low when I turned the controller on

BIGGEST QUESTION:

I have an AP gig NEXT week, I noticed one arm section to my f550 PDB frame has cracked. It's not all the way broken off, but obviously cracked. Can I reinforce this and still fly??? It'll turn on with no props, but I have to order a few more this week. Worried about putting it back in the air

Just buy a f550 frame and replace the broken pieces. The Naza and the motors should be fine. Don't fret, this is an easy fix. As far as the fail safe goes, well there are a lot of variables, your home position could have been set in the air if you were impatient, check the software to see if the fail safe is enabled or when fail safe goes into affect. Would have had to been there to see what the true cause was

Thanks man! Feel a bit better. What's odd is my home position was recorded before takeoff (multiple green LED's). Almost as SOON as my controller says "low battery" on the tx BOOM it went down. I'm going to order a new PDB next week. But due to shipping times I won't have it for my gig Monday. Does anyone think this cracked piece is able to fly after reinforcement?

So I took the f550 and stock props for a quick flight to see WHAT/IF anything's damaged. Currently my GPS module is attached directly to the frame, although I read this may cause interference so I ordered a folding GPS mount which is coming in Saturday. Need to get things back to normal by Monday, thankful to have this site. Here's whats going on:

Right now my rig is finding full satellites, but doing some HEAVY drifting while in the air. Before this crash my rig was SOLID, would hover in place with no hands on the controller, I could pull on it in the air and it would barely move. Now I'm basically fighting it to not drift to the right. Things sound a little odd but I'm guessing thats the stock propellers. I'm also getting a slight turn (yaw) to the left every now and then, and I have to straighten it in flight. :upset:

Anyone have the proper GPS coordinates for mounting on the f550? Wondering if my parameters are wrong. All I know is things were flying on point before I took this spill. Praying I didn't mess up my GPS module, but the satellites seem to connect and calibration seems to work. Now this drift is horrible and I hope to have it back to normal(ish). Any input/suggestions anyone?

your gps postion settings are now wrong it will cause it to torlite bowl. (gets wider over time) That's when you let go of the sticks. Another thing to do is replace the board as you might of cracked some of the power leads meaning 1 motor gets less power. Also pull on the motors left and right up and down and see if there is allot of play in the motor if so the bearing or shaft is damaged and needs to be replaced (you can break the clips and the housing comes right out) Once that is all fixed up it should fly better also make sure it's balanced correctly and strap the battery in with straps from all side so it can't slide over and shift the weight doing that fixed my drifting.

Hi PCMAerial

Sorry to hear about your crash. Never fun especially the first one. Knowledge and trust in your equipment is paramount to operating successfully, we all need to learn and start from the beginning. However I seem a little concerned you are already doing "gigs" and seem to still be learning some basic setup and maintenance procedures. I understand this forum is here to help and support everyone of all levels of experience and it is definitely not my place to say what you should be doing. Just some friendly advice to remind people these are not toys and really dont just fly themselves. Image how it would look if what happened occurred during a gig, even worse if it happened to injure someone. I hope I am not too far out of place saying this.

Not at all. I can understand the concern. I've logged 100+hrs of flight time currently, with insurance and no I'm not a seasoned vet, but I respect the ability to take my thousands of dollars worth of equipment into the air for a purpose, not a hobby. I'm not sure of every bit of the extensive maintenance after crashing with the cracked frame as I haven't gone down yet so I consulted this awesome site while performing my own troubleshooting to learn how to fix this, taking research and patient steps for everything. But the basic maintenance and previous flights I have logged have seemed enough to keep my craft in the air, until the day my battery died on my controller. Lesson learned, now time to improve and update my log of information to never have it happen again. To be honest I'm in this to become a Professional in every aspect of appreciation for this craft, in no way out here to fly a "toy" for fun. I appreciate the concern! I consider my rig to be on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to a toy vs professional application.
