Hello everyone,

I own Graupner MX-22 and Spektrum DX8 transmitters. I replaced the batteries with Lipo versions.

For Graupner MX-22 I bought this one:

For Spektrum DX8::

(Total 23$ for two batteries ).

Lipo For Graupner MX-22

The power socket is almost suitable for Graupner MX-22. The size of the battery is perfect for the battery bay.

What I did for this battery:

* I cut the empty part of the socket and then shortened a little bit since the socket was touching the battery.

The battery is 3s (11.1V). Normally, Graupner MX-22 uses 9.6V NiCD batteries. I didn't make any modifications like lovering the Voltage outpu of the battery. It just works perfectly.

When you look at the Graupner's web site they have the same rated Lipo batteries sold as suitable for MX-22:

Lipo for Spektrum DX8:

The Lipo I bought is 2S (7.4V). The discharge (power) socket is XT60 and it doesn't fit This battery is not made specifically for transmitters. I bought this one, because the size of this Lipo fits perfectly to the batt bay of DX8.

Luckily, the Lipo for Graupner MX-22 has two discharge plugs and one of the fits DX8 perfectly and it's not used on Graupner MX-22.

So I cut it from Graupner's Lipo and soldered it to DX8's Lipo battery. It's all done.

After plugging the Lipo, I entered the system menu and changed the batt type to Lipo. So DX8 gives warning then the Voltage is 6.4V.

Spektrum is selling its own Lipo for DX7/DX8 for $70. (http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPMB4000LPTX ) It's 4000 mAh, has much bigger capacity than the one I bought (1600 mAh) but 1600mAh will be more than enough.

I'm expecting much much much much more battery life than the NiCd batteries.

I bought one spare for each TX so hopefully I'll stop worrying about TX batteries.

I've been using lipo packs in my Tx's for about two years now, I'll never use nicad or nimh again. Normal just on the weekend usage I find I have to charge the lipo in the TX about once a month, if I do a lot of flying in the yard weekdays between weekends at the field I have to charge it every two weeks. Best part is I take my charger when I go out anywhere to fly so in worst case I can hookup to the car battery and give the TX pack a quick charge. If I do a lot of winter flying I sometimes have to charge the pack a little more often as it doesn't hold a charge as well in the cold, otherwise its probably the best thing I've ever done to my radio gear.
