S800 evo battery packs 1 or 2

As of right now I am going to be running 2 battery's because I cannot afford 275 dollar 10000 mah packs. I see there are 5000 to 6200 packs. Which is recommended and why ? If I can should I get the bigger ones considering I have to buy 20 of them so I don't have to recharge as much on shoots? If someone has a good battery out there that is a large pack for a good deal let me know!

I run 2 x 6000mAh packs in parallel so if I get a cell or pack failure in flight, the bird will stay in the air.

2 x 6000 will be notably heavier than a single 10000, and redundacy failure is a small risk - I've never heard of a cell failure in the air. You're likely to introduce chances of failure with double the connectors, a Y cable etc.

I have 2 x maxamp 10900's, and they are *expensive*. But good! I fly a single pack, then another. I rarely need more than this, but then again I'm not doing this in a professional capacity.

However, I've recently started using 8000 packs from HK/Zippy, because they're $110. Not cheap, but definitely affordable. And on my rig, the weight reduction does compensate a little for the amp loss, so I don't lose as much flight time as expected, and a bit of trim compensates easily for the CoG change. And my charger can charge 2 at once (1C), where it would pop out (the house fuse!) doing 2x10900. I don't charge in the field or go beyond 1C/balanced.

I see foxtech have 16000 "dual core" packs out now, for a - and I say this loosely - "sensible" price. Will be interesting to see how they perform. Pity they're the wrong dimensions for my rig - I'd need an "SBS" config for that pack.

Troy Built Models has a 16000mah 6s battery for $279. They say it weighs just 3.75 lbs (1700 grams) that is a lot less than the Foxtech 16000 st 2160 grams and $342.

I've ordered one to see how it works.

Just watch the vid...wow it's way out. one cell was 4.34v! And the drain was uneven too....hmmm. My maxamps drain at 0.02 within each other across all cells, and only drops 0.1 under load.

So if you had the s800 evo and were doing this as a professional job which would be the best battery you guys would recommend that you felt comfortable with and was a decent price point? Is it worth saving money and running two packs or just spend more and get a single larger pack? Also if I do go with 2 packs would you stay around the 5000 mah range or move up around 6000 mah or 6200 if it didnt add to much more weight? Is there a recommended battery weight range to stay within on the evo? BTW I will be carrying the GH3

To figure out what battery you can run you need to know how much weight you can afford. My unloaded S800 EVO without battery or camera is 4150g. That includes video transmitter, A2 controller, battery mount (but no battery). The max rated weight for this craft is 8000g. You can add a total load of 3850g between the camera gimbal and battery.

How much battery you can carry depends on how much of that weight your camera and gimbal you will use. Here are a few different camera gimbal frame combinations with the weight of each.

S800 + H3-2D+ gopro = 4380g, leaving 3620g for battery

S800 + Zen z15n + nex5nw/16mm = 5729g, leaving 2271g for battery

S800 + Zen z15 GH3 + GH3 w/12mm = 6113g, leaving 1887g for battery

S800 + Zen z15-5d + 5dII w/24mm = 8185g, overweight by 185 grams no room for battery

The 6000mah Turnigy batteries I have from a previous build weight 882g each. If I run two of them that would be 1764g of weight for 12000 mah of power. With that battery combination I could fly either the Nex5n or the GH3 with Zen gimbal and still be under the max weight.

The Troy Built 16000mah battery is heavy at 1700g but it about the same weight as two 6000mah batteries but with an additional 3000mah of power for the same weight.
