Antenna's for 5.8 ghz

Totally new to FPV. Just ordered Immersion RC 5.8 ghz 600mw tx and uno v2 receiver and both come with standard antenna's. Any recommendations for good TX/RX antenna's that could get me 1/2 to 3/4 mile? Also need to understand the point of all this range if my DX8 is not as good. Can a different antenna also increase DX8 range?

There are many alternative antennas for your system some Yagis like the ones Kopterworx sell can increase that range to 7-8 km. However you should always have more FPV range than RC because if you loose the video link you probably loose your model. If you set up RTH then you can take back control when you come back in range. If you start to see the video signal dropping out then climb up and turn back. The stock antennas are good to get you started. The only way to get more range out of the DX8 is to have a LRS booster But that is not much use if your MR can only fly for 15 mins.

I have these on the same immersion setup you have bought. http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_45_49_97&products_id=1058

The key to good video reception with these comes from placement of the aerials.

This was a useful video for me when I first started messing around with fpv.

I would also buy one of these, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__13064__Signal_loss_Alarm_Lost_Plane_Finder.html

If you are going to be doing fpv within the 1/2 mile range then if you do crash and have one of these on your multi you have a better chance of finding it with this audible alarm.

+1 to what Stacky said.... I just bought a pair of these.... http://www.amazon.com/NEEWER%C2%AE-Circular-Polarized-Airplanes-Helicopters/dp/B00DU8CY58 just to try them out. I already have the FatShark Circular Polarized antennas but these were so cheap I just had to see if they work. If you are still in the market on Friday I am going to test them against the FatShark CP antennas and I will post here whether they are decent or not....

Want to thank everyone for the excellent information here. I was considering the Fatshark CP antennas as well but wondered how the cheaper variations would work. When I look at the Neewer 5.8ghz options on Amazon there are 4 different pairs offered that vary from $8 to $39 and only one has a db spec. Does the hood provide any protection for a frequent crasher like myself and do all of the bend so you can mount them downward facing?

Still interested in your opinion of the antenna's on Amazon.

They weren't half bad Bob! I had a friend of mine using them on my second pair of goggles in this video and we didn't notice any difference between the two. Admittedly I'm not going 500 miles out but they seemed to perform as well as the FatShark antennas at least in the ranges I put them through....
