Im new to multi rotor and would like to know which of the many online suppliers are the best to deal with. I am planning on building an octocopter.

Welcome to MRF, there are lots of great online suppliers lots of people quite simply use HobbyKing

I think if this is your first ever build you might want to start with a quad. An octocopter is lots of cash to loose in noob crash.
