Transport box design looking for right material

Hi,

I decided I want an upside down transport box for my AD-8. For the cars trunk I think it makes sense since the space next to the landing gear can still be used. The weight of the kopter will be on the arms and for those holders I am not sure which materiel to use. Cutting them out of some foam isn't really what I want to do. Additional wood work would just increase the weight and isn't my preferred solution. Anybody have an idea which material I could use keeping the variables in mind not to heavy, easy to form or cut with straight and clean edges, can be glued or somehow attached to wood.

can you get pvc trim material where you live? pvc trim is what carpenters use in place of real wood. it'll hold a wood screw, it machines like real wood, and it's lighter.
if you're putting any real weight on it though you may want to put screws through it with a washer and nut on the other side or just use large enough screw so it has lots of bite.

How about coroplast? It's like cardboard but made of plastic.

I was thinking about making something like a drum case out of it.

never heard of it, but Im on the search. Probably when i find it translated or the german product name i will be like ah, although i wouldn't be surprised if its not sold in europe.

Try a sign-making company if you have one near you - the type that print big banners, placards for real estate agents, etc. They use a variety of interesting materials - laminated PVC with corrugated core, foam core, etc.

Hi Jes1111, actually have a sign making company two blocks away from me, I will give it a try and see how willing they are.

PVC trim and coroplast i just cant find in europe, strange one. Shipping cost from the state to expensive.

If you've decided to make one I also think the sign material would work well for you. I wanted a transport box months back for my Hexa and after weighing different options decided to use a recycled military electronics case. They are relatively easy to find, reasonable in cost, and very durable. They aren't the lightest but then again these cases are made to be thrown out of airplanes and survive. Most are made by Hardigg or Platt.

The best dimension for a AD8 HL Ext that i found is this one http://www.peli.com/en/cases/al3834-1605-single-lid-case. I can barely fit it in my trunk not leaving any space for anything else. Remember i am European we are all about the VW golfs and audi a3 etc Not to mention the price around 1000 $ which really hurts ! Even if i find a cheaper one i will not have resolved the trunk issue. I think i will go for the upside down solution and let a carpenter do it with some material i still have to find. The Hardigg look wise are actually what I would want to have, considering for the next smaller copter

This can happen if your carpenter doesn't speak the same language I sent him the dimensions a week ago just asking for the price and he understood do it. He brought the box today

If it dont then just turn it upside down and use it as a coffee table... looks very nice and very well made... bet that would get airport baggage handlers curious!

They are nice looking cases. I'm impressed.

They may be too nice to ship on an airplane. I have a theory that baggage handlers take great pride in doing destructive testing on others peoples property.

BTW, I agree with Droider. They would make a nice coffee table.
